I'm moving on

It's time to jump ship and start fresh. I've started a new blog (or I've moved Fanciful Discords to a new platform to be more exact)

www.fancifuldiscords.com
"I started blogging in 2010 focusing on music - album reviews, gig reviews and random ramblings. I did this casually alongside writing freelance for various online music publications and websites. Overtime my day job became more demanding, the posts became more personal and the random ramblings took over the reviews... Since then, I've written about my experiences with pregnancy and the birth of my baby boy. Although I still have a fascination with music, my posts have moved on to cover lifestyle aspects - life as a mama in particular..."
Please check it out, follow, subscribe, like, comment, share, say Hi. Don't forget to re-subscribe for email updates.

I'm going to leave this blogspot as it is.

Thanks for sticking with me!

The Playlist | July 2017

I was tempted to review the Fireman Sam theme tune and  'Jelly On A Plate' for this months playlist - but I just managed to regain my mind from mothering mush. My brain has been hijacked by a black sheep and its being scrambled by five little speckled frogs. Wednesday's 'Rhyme Time' baby group went a miss today, for my sanity.

Michael has gone to Scotland for a sporting event so I'm home alone tonight, and for the rest of the week. I should starfish the bed, catch as many hours sleep as I can ready for the dreaded 1am and 4am feeds. Instead I am making the most out of the free time and lack of any distractions like Orange Is The New Black (omg that series is good!)

The Beach

The infinite horizon - that's why I love the beach. The blocks of colour - shades of blue, white and grey, the soundtrack of the tide, the sparkling seawater, the fizz of the sea foam, the edge, the freedom. Is there anywhere better?

The Playlist | June 2017

This week has hit us with overwhelming heat. Arlo and I have been hiding from the midday sun and only venturing outdoors when we can shimmy around in the shade. Normally I would adore this weather, the bbq culture, the beach, popsicles - dreamy. Arlo can't handle the high temperatures though and his fresh sensitive skin burns in seconds, the poor little guy is vulnerable. He's currently having a long nap in his swing chair, just wearing his mini shorts (p.s. his half naked chub is so delicious!)

Wild Flowers

It's definitely summer, you can see it and you can feel it. Whether it's the heat on your skin from the sun or the stuffy smell when rain first falls onto hot plants and tarmac. Wild flowers are blooming and the days stretch late into the night.

3 months of Arlo

Arlo is 3 months old on Sunday. It feels like he's been a part of us for much longer. We're a devoted little family of three humans and little three pets. Everyday is an unwritten adventure, every morning is full of fresh anticipation. Most days we're counting every smile, giggling and swapping average conversation to song. When Arlo falls asleep I find myself pining for him, greedy for one more smile, for one more explosion in my heart.

Don't cry over spilt milk

If you told me when I started this blog - back when I was rolling around in mosh pits and worshipping the electric guitar - that I'd write a post about breastfeeding, I'd probably scoff and bury my face in my hands. If you told me that when I was writing this post I would have a double breast pump strapped to my chest, I'd probably fall over. I never thought I'd have much to say on the matter - but hear me out.

The Playlist | May 2017

I started this week with a cold and a couple of sofa days, maximising our Netflix subscription with bottomless cups of tea. In reality, running out of social media feeds to entertain myself with. Pregnancy did my immunity a favour so this is the first time I've been ill for a long time. Arlo has learnt how to smile now so occasionally he just chuckles at me whilst I suffer (thanks bud).

I'm just updating my music library, hoping the dulcet tones will soothe my headache. As if I'm on maternity leave and I haven't found the time to do it otherwise. Baby is life.

Sharenting

It's been 2 months of Arlo.

I've been busy getting to know who he is and how he fits into our life. Spending our days on family adventures and drinking lots of coffee.

Arlo's birth story

At 7:53pm on Sunday 26th February 2017, Arlo was born. I will never forget the details of that night. It will forever be the very best thing I have ever done. Overall labour was super quick - only 1 hour 33 minutes. It was a natural birth with no hard drugs. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. It was incredible.

Introducing Arlo

Smooth sailing - my labour playlists

As ever I have my priorities in order... For the arrival of our baby we have hospital bags packed waiting by the door, we have birth preferences filed in our notes and most importantly, we have playlists of music for the labour. As advised by midwives, we've organised some music to bring along to the delivery suite, it's not down to my obsession.

To feel hurt and to feel joy, feelings that come from loving you. Situations can change, between the morning and the night. So open up my eyes to a new light. I wandered around your darkened land all night, but I lift up my eyes to a new high, and indeed there will be time. And in the cold night I live, I'll only live for you, It's all that I am, It's all that I have. Why do I keep falling?
