A Day To Remember

Surprisingly I am still retaining a bit of optimism whilst I wait out the rest of this god damn awful year. Lets say 2013 can suck it!

However I have been suffering with wanderlust. This place that i've found myself wound up and rooted in is no longer forming into a home but a cage instead. My days are made up of looking up, above and beyond the spider web made up of camouflaged enemies and doubts.

I've got a cup of tea and a fat fluffily cat on my lap, when A Day To Remember start blaring out my weak little laptop speakers I feel I should instead be gargling down a few beers and hurtling myself off the sofa with Milo (the cat) as we both jiggle our bodies outrageously.

you wanna take, take, take, take, take it away from me, take it away from me. You can't wait, wait, wait, wait, wait till I'm stumbling….
YO! I GOT IT!

I am probably the last ADTR fan on earth to listen to the new album, Common Courtesy. It has been highly anticipated, as are all albums which follow on from an awesome predecessor, but most of the time, lets be honest, they turn out to be a shambles. What Separates Me From You set a high bar and there was doubt if A Day To Remember would reach it again and whether they have or not, I am still deciding, they've definitely made a good effort scrambling for it.

Stuffed full of strident breakdowns and enduring sing along vocals, it's lovely to have their familiar chords reverberate through me. Subtly the band have matured and their sound has solidified into something they can definitely call their own. Amongst all the other bands in the 'core' genres these days, it is difficult to illustrate a definitive sound. A Day to Remember have hit that target.

There is an ounce of every special ADTR ingredient in Common Courtesy. The mental hardhat fans can sink into muddy guitar, power chords for the air guitarists/drummers and slower tempos for the disturbed romantics. Jeremy cuddles you with his vocals whilst the instrumentals rush you into a turmoil of melody and breathtaking turbulence. A fabulous compilation of songs, really.

With everything that sets me back, I push back harder to clear the way. There's not a thing that I regret. I can't live my life in yesterday.
