Birdy - Birdy Review

By on 24/11/2011 Studio album by Jasmine Van Den Bogaerde
Jasmine Van Den Bogaerde e.g Birdy, recently emerged out of The New Forest with her soggy album of indie covers produced by James Ford, Rich Costey and Jim Abbiss, who have previously worked with Adele, Arctic Monkeys and the almighty Muse. Unfortunately the Album lacks any original credibility. Don’t get me wrong, Birdy has a sweet voice, but it has no distinction to other 15 year olds on YouTube.
Pinching the best bits of indie and releasing it on a conspicuous date before Christmas, marketing this baby has been easy. Luckily this gives Birdy plenty of profile to control and feature her own work on potential album 2. Well let’s hope, it’d be nice to give the kid a chance. At least we can bet she’ll have talent compared to whatever X Factor vomits out this year.
The track listing is contemporary vs indie expressive. It lacks any depth or mysterious shiver however, which is something Bon Iver (original Skinny Love artist) would shower all over your nerves.
To be fair to the girl, she has a good music taste and fresh English rose image but is her own spit on these songs enough? There is no gift or aptitude. I highly doubt this album will retain everyone’s attention for much longer, apart from the Topshop minions gasping after her trendy name.
